EarthBound is a role-playing video game created by Shigesato Itoi and released by Nintendo in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. In it, you control Ness, a boy with psychic powers, who, along with Paula, Jeff, and Poo, must join forces to defeat Giygas, an alien being who has possessed the entire Earth in the future.

Dragon Quest, or Dragon Warrior in the West, was a role-playing video game released by Enix in Japan in 1986, and arrived in the West in 1989. In the game, you control an unnamed character, a descendant of the legendary hero Erdrick, whose mission is to rescue Princess Gwaelin and recover the Sphere of Light stolen by the evil Dragonlord, restoring peace to the kingdom of Alefgard.
