Since March 2026, BSNL International Roaming (IR) has stopped working in Japan. My phone has been showing “No Service” all the time here in Nagoya, Japan.

At first, I thought this might be an iPhone compatibility issue (VoLTE / carrier settings / 4G-only issue). However, after hearing from many fellow Redditors facing the exact same problem, it now seems that the issue may actually be related to BSNL’s IR infrastructure in Japan.

From what I understand:

• NTT DOCOMO officially shut down its 3G network on March 2026.
• SoftBank had already shut down its 3G network earlier.
• It appears that BSNL roaming in Japan may still have been relying on legacy 2G/3G systems.

Because of these reasons, BSNL users in Japan may now be unable to connect to Japanese networks at all.

After contacting BSNL more than 20 times, I keep receiving generic replies stating that the “issue has been resolved,” but there has been no actual support or solution.

BTW, is anyone in Japan still able to use BSNL roaming since March 2026?

Since March, my BSNL SIM has been showing “No Service” on my iPhone here in Nagoya (Japan).

Earlier, I used BSNL SIM in an old Android phone and it worked fine in Nagoya.

My dad also visited a BSNL office in my hometown in India, but they couldn’t resolve the issue.

I’m trying to figure out whether this is an iPhone compatibility issue or something related to BSNL (like VoLTE, etc).

Has anyone faced a similar problem or knows what might be causing this?
