I’ve seen this question come up a bit, so figured I’d share my experience in case it helps anyone trying to decide.
I used Streamlabs for a couple years, and for a long time it was just the default recommendation everywhere by my friends. It works, it’s familiar, and there’s a ton of built-in stuff. But over time, especially on a single PC setup, it started feeling really heavy. Like, I didn’t notice it at first, but once I started playing more demanding games my FPS would randomly dip and everything just felt kind of sluggish.
Out of curiosity I tried Meld Studio a while back, and the biggest difference right away was performance. It just runs lighter. Same setup, same games, but way fewer hiccups. That alone made it worth sticking with for me.
The UI is also a lot less cluttered. Streamlabs kind of feels like it’s been built on top of itself for years (which it has), so there’s a lot going on. Meld feels more straightforward. I got my scenes and sources set up way faster than I expected.
That said, Streamlabs still has an edge when it comes to alerts, themes, and overlays. Their library is huge, and if you care a lot about the visual side of your stream, it’s definitely a plus. Meld’s newer stuff like Spark is improving, but it’s got some growing to do.
One thing that surprised me was multistreaming. I didn’t realize how locked down it is on Streamlabs unless you pay for Ultra. Meld just lets you do it. If you’re streaming to multiple platforms, that is an easy cost you are not paying every month. The money I’m saving for not paying for Ultra I might put towards Spark for more usage.
Overall, I would not say Streamlabs is bad. If you are already set up and everything runs fine, there is no urgent reason to switch. But if your PC struggles at all or you are starting from scratch, Meld is worth trying. The difference was pretty noticeable for me.
Curious what others think. Feels like more people are switching lately.
