Long Live London Snow (1971)

Hey! This is the third part of my “The Beatles In The 70s” series, where I’ll be imagining the band’s career if they didn’t break up. Here it is:

Long Live London Snow (1971):

After the sucess, but mixed reviews, of “RAM”, The Beatles didn’t stop working. John started recording demos at home and startes writing great songs. Paul was busy raising Mary, his daughter. Ringo was also with his family, while George was taking care of Friar Park.

After some time, the boys came back to the studio and recorded some songs which would be on the album, like “I Live For You” and “Gimme Some Truth”. There weren’t any big arguments during the sessions and everything was doing fine. They finished the album in a month.

Two singles were released for this album: “Uncle Albert/Asmiral Halsey/Awaiting On You All” (reached no. 1 UK and no. 3 USA, rekeased 12th of November) and “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)/Monkberry Moon Delight” (Reached no. 1 UK and USA, released 30th November)

Released 15th of December, this is one of the band’s best albums and their most mature so far. The songwriting shows more about politics, spirituality and their vision of the caotic world they live.

The cover photo was shot by Linda McCartney in front of Big Ben and also features Mary, Paul’s daughter. It’s replicated by fans till this day.

Hey! This is the second part of my “The Beatles In The 70s” series, where I’ll be imagining the band’s career if they didn’t break up. Here it is:

Ram (1971):

After the double-album “Friar Park”, The Beatles had sometime to rest. John stayed some time with Yoko in New York, while Paul stayed with Linda at their farm in Scotland. George stayed at Friar Park, gardening. Ringo stayed with his family in his mansion near London.

Paul, while resting, began to organize a studio, called Rude Studio. He called the others and called them to come to his farm in Scotland, they’d make a new album.

When Lennon, Harrison and Starr arrived, the Fab Four started working, writing and recording. They used everything in the studio and the album was done in less than a month.

Going back to London, the boys went to Abbey Road, to master and mix the album. The front cover photo was shot by Linda McCartney at the farm and the back cover had drawings by the boys and an early picture of them by Astrid Kircherr.

Before the release, two singles were released: “Imagine/Too Many People” (Released July 20th. Reached no. 1 in the UK and the USA) and “It Don’t Come Easy/Jealous Guy” (Released August 15th. Reached no. 1 in the UK and no. 3 in the USA).

The album was released August 30th and was an a great hit, although a bit criticised by some critics for being a nit different from others, specially Paul’s songs. It was adored by fans and made it to the top spot in the charts in several countries!

First part of my new series: The Beatles in the 70s! Hope you guys like it.

After the relase of “Let It Be” and his adventures playing at the Toronto Peace Festival, John Lennon decided he had only had a bad day and announced he would stay with The Beatles.

The four boys went to George’s new home, Friar Park, and stayed there for about a week, relaxing, hanging out and jamming. They recorded some new songs alone and produced them alone, without any “adults” to supervise. That’s why part of the record has this great unfinished feel to it.

Later, the band returned to London and finished the album with George Martin, recording new songs and adding overdubs. In late August, the album was finished.

The release date was set to October 9th, John’s 30th birthday. The cover was shot on Friar Park’s gardens. Before the release, two singles were released: “Maybe I’m Amazed/Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)” on September 16th and “My Sweet Lord/Every Night” on September 30th. Both got to number 1 in the UK and the USA.

“Friar Park” was a big hit and was considered one of The Beatles’ beat by critics and fans. The boys got really happy with the results and decided that besides all the disputes, they’d still be friends…
