Hoping those within the trade can give more specific insight here. This is a 1940’s home, and very few (if any) ceiling joists are nailed into the rafters. Most are just toe nailed along the top plate (even the ones that look connected aren’t). I’d guess maybe 1 in every 7-8 joists are nailed at the rafter.
Any idea why this would have been done back in the day? At first I was concerned but the rafters are still tight at the ridge, so it doesn’t seem anything has pulled away.
