For anyone curious, Here's my take of Mario abuse and Meggy's flanderization:

>!Throughout SMG4, especially "Mario Does Litterally Anything For Views", it's shown that Mario is way more effected by emotional pain than physical pain, so I imagine him being more upset that he feels like he's failing to keep his promise to Meggy than he is about the abuse.!<

>!As for Meggy, I think she hasn't really moved on from Desti's death, even though she pretends she has. She projects her insecurities of not being good enough onto others, so she always tries to take the moral high ground to avoid being seen as "weak".!<
