Hello everyone, this is probably a very broad question with no simple answer lol but I have a lil story and a big question I'd like to ask.
I've played Fighting Games my whole life but in the casual way where I mashed on games for a while, tried to learn a small amount of stuff and then quit. I used to play League of Legends with a friend; he still plays it, I hate it and refuse to touch the game lmao. However, I still really like the world and lore of League and when I first heard about 2XKO a few years ago and heard that it would have duos, I wanted to truly get into Fighting Games. I picked the tough path and got into the genre all on my own through YouTube vids and streams and I finally got into the FGC early last year. When 2XKO finally came out toward the end of the year, I tried to play duos with that friend that I mentioned. At first it went alright, but we slowly fell off. And I don't fully know what the reason was; it could've been the game itself not being that fun for him, it could've been the fact that he just doesn't wanna learn, or I feel like it could've been my teaching. I tried to tell him the fundamentals that I knew, but I feel like I probably overloaded him a bit and made everything less fun. So this leads to my bigger question that has a few smaller questions attached. Big question: Is there a better way to teach my friend Fighting Games? I watched a few videos recently of people teaching their non FGC friends how to play and it made me want to try and teach my friend again. So should I focus on the basics until he gets them down like I assume I should? Should I even use 2XKO as a learning game? We're mainly playing it because ofc it's free, but is it actually a worse game to learn for a true beginner? Should I try to teach them through something else like SF6 or Strive? And, I know this is more of a personal thing that I'd have to figure out on my own, but should I just give up and accept that my friend might not want to learn fighting games at all? Again I'm aware that this is something I should ask my friend directly lol, but I'm wondering if anyone maybe has a similar experience they could share to give me a lil more insight. I'm not looking for any miracle solution, I'm just looking for some advice and tips to help my friend learn the very basics of fighting games so we can hopefully have some fun together 😊 Thanks for reading!
