I'm starting my apprenticeship soon, and I wont be able to afford anything until my first few paychecks. Am I expected to have anything before I start? I've got shitty work boots and thats all i've got right now.

Also what is a belt I should invest in? I want something good quality and made to last.

What vehicle should I buy as my everything vehicle?

What I’m thinking about:

1. Something larger for bringing my tools and gear to job sites
2. Road trip available, 5000+ miles
3. As reliable and good gas mileage I can get
4. Preferably around the 15-20k mark, nothing over
5. Willing to finance no more than 1/3 of the overall price
6. NEEDS to be AWD

I’m driving an old 260k mile Acura right now and will want to upgrade once I save some more. I really like the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel, or a Tacoma, 4runner, or Tundra, Im very unfamiliar with the larger vehicle market. Something good at the occasional off road and snowy winters.
