Damn it...

For a long time, I’ve heard authors talk about how they get distracted from their writing by ideas for other stories. And I felt lucky to think that I was able to stay focused on a single project without getting sidetracked.

I’m writing a psychological thriller that blends several subgenres, and I’m currently at the exhausting stage of the second round of proofreading and editing.

But for the past two days, a new idea has started to take shape. I’m feeling that initial excitement again as the whole plot comes together bit by bit.

It’s in the horror genre (the one I originally write in), and I couldn’t help but sketch out a cover to have it in my Wattpad drafts!

We can't post Book Cover here to show you but I'm excited to finish so I can start this one !

Note: I'm french so I use a translator. I don't know if my post sounded like AI, it's the way I write...

Hello,

For years now, I’ve seen Wattpad as my best enemy. The concept is brilliant, and no matter how much people say “it’s changed” or “it was better before,”… it’s still a great platform that lets authors and readers interact. It’s awesome.

But there’s a catch, and it’s a big one.

Because I kind of feel like it only caters to two major genres: romance and fantasy. The others get little to no visibility.

And I don’t write those kinds of stories. I’m more into drama, action, and thrillers. And I can see it—it’s a real struggle to get read, even though I follow ALL the SEO tips without spamming my ads (that’s why you won’t see a link to my stories here; that’s not the point).

I have a core readership hovering around 70 views (two middle school classes—what a success). Just to test the waters, I published five chapters of a budding romance, just to see how it went, in the rich family/bodyguard genre. My goodness, it was so cheesy. And yet, with three times less effort, I easily surpassed 1,000 reads across the five chapters. Hence my impression that if you’re a drama writer like me, Wattpad isn’t the ideal platform.

Any advice, opinions, or recommendations?
