Now that both WoW and FFXIV have pretty clear roadmaps for the near future, with FFXIV also teasing its next expansion and upcoming combat changes, which game do you prefer overall?

For those who’ve spent serious time in both, which MMO gives you the better feeling when it comes to grinding for mounts, transmogs/glamour, armor sets, pets/minions, and collectibles in general?

Which game feels more rewarding to invest time into long term?

Let me elaborate. If I start a new character now, can I play through the base game and both expansions on the same character, or Is it better to use one character for the base game and then make a new one for each expansion?

Also, will I end up overleveled by the time I reach the newest expansion? I’m new to ARPGs. My goal is to play through the campaign and expansions, eventually reach endgame, and have fun doing the activities everyone else is doing there. I’m just not sure if I’ll even have enough time to reach endgame in a single season if I’m starting from the base game.

I originally bought FFXIV during 1.0, subbed briefly, and even ended up as a Legacy player. I was pretty young at the time and life got in the way, so I only played for about a week before stepping away.

I came back a couple years ago, picked up all the expansions, and played up to around level 50 before taking another break. I returned again last week, pushed through ARR, and I’m really glad I did.

Now I finally understand the experience so many players talk about when it comes to ARR. I’m genuinely excited for Heavensward and everything that comes next. I’m even thinking about picking up DRK as my next job.

I do wish I had been around for the hype during each expansion launch, but at the same time, I’m happy I still have so much of the game ahead of me to experience for the first time.
