in december 2025, costa rica saw over 13% more visitors than the year before. we've been going for years and have noticed the influx — manuel antonio on a saturday in peak season is a different experience than it was say just 5 years ago. in fairness, we write all about costa rica (the travel trio) and are lucky enough to go a few times a year. we love everything about the country and try to simulate and keep as light a footprint as possible. we know we are visitors, and are humble to be welcomed.

this is a genuine community question right now, for frequent visitors, ticos/ticas... share your take on which areas feel different, which are still "untouched", and where you'd steer travelers in 2026 (if anywhere). pura vida.

Just got back today! I heard that you don’t go to Costa Rica for the food so I lowered my expectations and I totally disagree. I had a few disappointing meals and all were at expensive beach restaurants. The best is the sodas. Just eat the meal of the day. Rice, beans and then they just put random meat and sauces. The best!
