I’ve always wondered who else knew about Jim’s operations. In the canonical Donnie Darko universe, I think that’s where the storyline should explore from. It is sort of odd because it mirrors the Jeffrey Epstein thing quite a bit: centering on the single individual and the story sort of dying from there.

Thoughts and other theories are welcome; Hope this generates some discussion. This is one of my top 5 all time favorite movies for now.
