This painting is inspired by the play written by a Polish writer Juliusz Słowacki almost 200 years ago.
Balladyna tells the story of two sisters whose innocent rivalry turns into a brutal struggle for power, when Balladyna murders Alina to win both love and status.
As she rises socially through deception and further crimes, guilt and paranoia begin to consume her, blurring the line between ambition and madness.
It is essentially a portrait of a psychopathic personality maturing.
