My attempt at making the SM-13! Notes below
A friend of mine's son turned 16 recently and he wanted an Iron Lung themed birthday. My friend asked if I'd be willing to try making the SM-13 to use as a cake topper and I said sure!
She got a remote controlled toy submarine to use as a base. That's why this one has some features that the proper sub does not as I didn't want to cut into the toy. Picture 8 shows what the toy started out like. Picture 9 is it as the cake topper! Her son loved it!
The reason for the extra rigging/lift that I made was because I thought I had messed up and this clear plastic cover that came with the toy didn't fit over it anymore with my additions. She didn't care about that, but I thought it might look cooler when displayed with something extra around it, so that's what I came up with.
The sub is a modification but the lift is a complete fabrication of my own. I do have a Google photo album with all my build progress pictures in it for any fellow nerds interested!
This was my first small scale project, I'm used to large cosplay props, so this was a fun challenge! It's not big, it fits in one hand. I'm happy, but more importantly they're happy. I hope you enjoy, too!
