My 2017 volt is coming to its end. It gets about 11.4 kilowatt hours out of the main drive battery still, but I'm just south of 200,000 mi, I haven't had an EGR in over a year, a number of my sensors aren't quite right, and it's just not worth putting any money into other than the basics.
There is no car that compares to the volt. What I was really hoping is that someone would take the ERV concept further and remove the gas engine from the drivetrain so that we had a car that got 120 or so miles electric and then had a generator and a gas tank that could get it another 80 or so miles as needed. For some reason that's not happening.
Tesla is not an option for me. That leaves 1) gas or hybrid, 2) the ioniq 5, which is probably a non-starter because of the ICCU issue, 3) The equinox EV which I have concerns about the build quality on, 4) The Subaru solterra or Toyota BZ, which are pricey and have slow charging and limited range, or, maybe 5) The mach e which has the downside of being a Ford. The bolt isn't an option because they've already told us they're only going to make it for a year, and I drive a car they don't make parts for that they made for way longer than that and I can't own a car that I can't get parts for again.
What did everybody else do when they gave up on the volt, or what are they planning when their volt can't go anymore?
