The e-Tron A/C not working saga.
Before you do anything, please beware this is a dangerous process. You can harm yourself or your car! Continue at your own risk. But it is easy.
So… I’m another e-Tron owner with a broken A/C… but I just fixed my 2019 e-tron’s dead AC for £20 instead of paying Audi £200+, wanted to share…here’s how
So my 2019 Audi e-tron 55 Launch Edition SUV decided the air conditioning wasn’t going to work anymore, just stopped. Fault on OBD eleven traced back to the AC high pressure control switch sensor failing pretty common apparently. Took it to the main dealer and they wanted £150 for diagnostics, £125+VAT just for the part, labour is £225 per hour… WTF!, with a four week wait on top AND and AC recharge!!! That’s gonna work out best part of £700!!
Four weeks. In spring/summer approaching . In a car with a black interior. No thanks.
Did some digging and found that the high pressure switch is actually integrated into the AC hose assembly of many cars, including e-Golf, VW Vans, and…. Audi e-Tron Q4. Jumped on eBay and searched for a Q4 AC hose, found one, it came with the pressure sensor already attached. Paid £20 delivered.. I also seen an old e-Golf AC line with the sensor attached.
Here’s what I did:
- Pulled out the front frunk to get access, a few trim parts on the front, your looking for sensor A. B is on the right hand side , A is under frunk.
- Drained the AC gas (yes I know, not great — do this) just unscrewed the caps of the pipes and put a screwdriver on the valve end, be careful!! Cold air comes out and water. Wear protection!!
- with a spanner, Unscrewed the old high pressure control switch
- Fitted the new pressure sensor switch from the eBay hose assembly
BTW I didn’t vacuum my AC line for those wondering. I have never done this in 10+ years of doing DIY AC charging and fixing. I had the sensors off for 60 seconds at most anyway, no moisture there, they are full of AC oil anyways.
Now…
- Reassembled everything
Anyways… I’m giving the car back soon as lease is up.
Part number: Genuine Audi VW Seat Skoda Pressure Sensor Pressure Switch 4M0959603E
Fired it up and cold air immediately, fault code gone. Job done.
£20 vs ££££££ from the dealer, four weeks wait vs one afternoon. The e-tron is a great car but some of these dealer markups are absolutely taking the mick.
If yours is throwing AC-related faults, worth checking the high pressure switch before you hand over a fortune, and don’t let Audi tell you the switch is ONLY for your car and it’s a common parts across all of VW/Audi
Happy to answer questions if anyone else is dealing with the same issue. My car is out of warranty at 60k miles now. So DIY job for me.
For those wanting to know more about the images.
