Project Tomato Leaf - Tweaking a fragrance oil

Inspired by the trend of luxury brands releasing their own tomato leaf scented candles, I’ve started developing my own version — heavily inspired by Flamingo Estate “Heirloom Tomato.”

So far, the best tomato leaf fragrance oil I’ve found is from CandleScience. I really like it as a base, but I find it a bit sharper/greener than what I’m ultimately aiming for.

My idea is to soften and round it out by blending in additional aroma chemicals and possibly some essential oils.

For those of you who formulate candles more deeply:
Have you successfully tweaked a pre-formulated fragrance oil by adding your own ingredients?

My main concern is whether modifying the original CandleScience formula could negatively affect:
- wax performance
- curing/setting
- hot throw
- burn quality
- wick behavior

I’d love to hear any experiences, tips, or pitfalls before I start experimenting too heavily. Thanks!

The use of AI as a tool

After some years of both studies and practice, I find that after a failed composition which I have spent so many hours tweaking I simply abandon my practice for a period of time before going back to my creative process and eventually getting back into the process of perfumery again. Don’t get me wrong I still love the exploration and I understand that you can only learn from your mistakes but with the advent of AI and the possibilities that it can provide in formulating I ask myself why not try something with it as a tool to prevent those spoiled projects. I’m wondering if other people are also using AI and if so, in what capacity? I don’t know… It almost feels like cheating or cutting corners but maybe that’s just me not adapting to technology. Please share your thoughts on this.
