Hernia Surgery Postponed Because of Constipation. Rescheduled But What to Do Next?
Surgeon decided to postpone much needed hernia surgery when I finally reached him (instead of the effing unmonitored "portal") the day before scheduled Surgery, (Day 6 of constipation) He said if you're that constipated he'd be very reluctant to perform double hernia surgery until I'm relatively clear .Surgery postponed for 4 weeks.
I had been taking most laxatives under the sun with no results whatsoever until this morning (Day 10). I kept explaining to my "medical" team this out of the blue constipation (the hernia might be playing a role) emerged over a period of time, and even after it seems to resolve the "cycle" might reoccur including continuing again until right before the new surgery date. "Take laxatives"--a few were specifically recommended-- and hope for the best was the advice..
Question (finally!): as of this moment I do not feel I'm presently "constipated". Do I resume laxatives immediately prophylactically in an effort to prevent another long bout of constipation? Do I assume it WILL reoccur in a multi-day cycle leading to extreme discomfort (in large part the pressure on the hernia areas, the damage to which areas seems more than likely)?
OR do I wait again until Day 5 or 6 where there be no doubt the troubling constipation is back and THEN resume laxatives? Getting no guidance from the "medical team". Should I stop laxatives or keep taking them although presently not constipated? Thanks folks.
