Question before buying a Garmin...

The more I think about it, and the more I look into it, the more confident I feel that Garmin is the right choice for me.

Here is what I have landed on:

Yes, all the smartwatch functions are neat and all, but I can do all of those things with my phone... I don't need to buy a watch I can use for payments, YouTube videos etc.

However, what my phone CAN'T do, is last for DAYS without charging.

So... what's the most important thing for me? I have decided I want to walk from my doorstep to a town that takes approximately 20 hours to walk. I want to see if I can do this to raise awareness AND funds for a charitable organization. This is not a walk I go for every day, so it would be awesome if I could track the entire walk. the route, the amount of hours, the amount of steps etc. from start to finish. That way, I can show the route and the statistics at the end of the trip. (I don't need to track my breaks and when I set up camp for the night, but whenever I walk towards the next destination.)

I have realized that Garmin doesn't seem to offer much in the way of apps and maps... buuuut there is the Garmin Connect. Will I be able to track everything and have it all show up on my app? including the entire route for the 20 hour long walk?

I have looked at Forerunner 255 and 265. If it does offer things for everyday use, that's a huge plus, by the way. and Since it's unknown territory for me, and my phone has limited battery, being able to look at my wrist for directions - while also tracking everything - would be a plus. If not, I can track everything, and occasionally pull up my phone for directions.
