Halloween Urchin Concerns
Hey everyone! First time urchin owner and poster :)
So I have a mixed reef tank, approximately 225 gallons currently home to 2 halloween urchins, 2 tuxedos, some brittle stars, sand sifter stars, 7 green chromis’, and a latge variety of different snails and hermits.
My concern is regarding one of my urchins. I have noticed what looks to be the orange spines floating throughout the tank and I believe they’re coming from my one urchin. It moves well and regularly throughout the whole tank on all terrain (rocks, glass, wave makers, etc) but he doesn’t look as “full” as my other halloween in terms of spines and colouring.
All of my other critters are doing wonderfully, I check the salinity of my tank twice a day, I check my ammonia and nitrate levels at minimum one-two times a week, if not more and have no concerns.
Should I be concerned about its health and wellbeing? He’s active, none of my other critters are showing any signs of distress or discomfort, all my parameters are in check, my biggest concern is his lack of long orange spines and that he doesn’t really wear “hats” like he used to.
