[Online][Other][5PM EST][Saturday][LGBT] Come and adventure across Eem in the rich, narrative sandbox of the Mucklands!

Hello! I'm looking for 3-4 daring adventurers who want to explore the Land of Eem. It's described as somewhere between Lord of the Rings, Adventure Time, Discworld, Labyrinth, and the Muppets. Trust me, all of those are 100% accurate. It leans into the whimsical aspects of fantasy, with a group of valiant heroes adventuring across a strange and wonderful world, but with darker undertones that touch on corporate greed, climate change, and it's a tiny bit post-apocalyptic.

It's truly one of the most fun games I've encountered, and in lieu of not many people running it themselves, I'm taking up the mantle with the campaign setting The Mucklands. This is a player-driven hexcrawl sandbox with some of the most fun locations, NPCs and sidequests that I've ever encountered - and while I'm not going to be perfect by any means, as this is my first time running Eem or any pre-written sandbox, I would love to share some joy with people.

The system is primarily narrative, and while combat is always an option, it's not usually the best one - or even a good one. You'll often find yourself being able to talk down an enemy, creatively manipulate the environment, or simply run away to win an encounter instead of hitting them head-on with a sword. I'd say probably 80/20 narrative/combat split. Potentially, you should expect some sessions with no combat at all.

The system gives players a lot of agency, even letting you sit in the GM chair for a bit with adding details to the world, and pursuing your own personal goal, whether that be to defeat an arch-enemy or just cook a really nice meal using a legendary fruit you've heard tales of.

Some info about my GM style specifically:

  • Roleplay-heavy.
  • Characters are expected to be fantastical and more than a little silly, but ultimately be three-dimensional characters, instead of one-note jokes.
  • Sessions will be about 3-4 hours, with a small intermission in the middle.
  • Theatre-of-the-mind. Players will get to see the hex grid, though.
  • I probably won't get the mechanics or lore of the world perfect right away, but will try my best.
  • The players are the main characters. I'm rooting for them.

I'm looking for players who:

  • Can use Discord and dice bots. No VTT will be used.
  • Enjoy roleplay and making proactive characters.
  • Are 18 or older.
  • Are accepting of marginalized identities. Bigots need not apply. (I'm nonbinary myself)
  • Can show up to weekly sessions at 5PM EST. If a player is missing, then I will continue the session without them. If two players are missing, then I might still run it, but it'll be some fun, non-canon side-stuff.
  • Have any level of experience with tabletop RPGs, but I will be looking for beginners to Land of Eem specifically, so we're all on the same page.
  • Have good mic quality. Webcams will not be used, and the game will not be recorded.

This form will stay up until Wednesday next week. In the meantime, I will be reaching out to applicants for interviews on Discord. Please make sure you're watching your friend requests! Saturday next week will hopefully be Session 0, where we will do introductions, make characters, and go over the basic rules of the game. Feel free to send me a chat on Reddit if you have any questions or concerns not covered in this post.

Thank you for reading!
