Fledgling apparently without parents- possibly released by someone

I never think twice about seeing fledglings and I always ignore them...or help them off the major road by my house. But today, I saw someone releaseing something into the grass in the lot by my house. She had a box with cloth in it and nitrile gloves. I was curious but didn't ask about it. 2 hours later and maybe 2-3 meters from where she released something there's a fledgling robin in the middle of the road. I go to move him onto the grass and I've been watching him but I don't see parents around. He followed 2 starlings and a passing robin ignored him. It's been maybe 2 hours and no sign of parents. I'm concerned someone released him and parents are no longer around. Should I pick him up and get him to a rescue? It's turning dark now.

Is it just me, am I being set up to fail, or is training simply inadqueate?

I've been here for a little under a year and training has been horrible. For months, the trainer completed project work that was to be passed to me and left me out of most of the update processes. Our manager had to get involved and tell him to show me something, but that didn't amount to much. My trainer repeatedly states he wants his projects back half-jokingly (I think). His daughter is working the same position as I and she started when I did. He's helping her in the office and at home to learn and make improvements to her project. I can't help but feel like there's some favoritism here and I realize I could be wrong. The project was ultimately dumped on me and the training cord severed. I tried to reverse engineer everything and ask questions which were always answered, but because I wasn't privy to so many of the changes made and the reasons for them, it was a disaster when it was my turn to update it on a tight schedule. Meanwhile I'm watching my trainer's daughter excel. Oh, and someone else was supposed to take over this project from my trainer before me but they ended up on some other project which makes me wonder if they encountered something similar.

I'm not new to this type of work, but each project is so complex and unique that even employees with long tenures would need significant training to get up to speed.

Am I imagining it or is this not ideal? I'm getting to the point where I might need to quit to preserve my mental health.
