Compared with Dreaming Spanish, which I also started from zero, I’ve never felt as confident in the method as I do in these first 12 hours of French.

A lot of these beginner videos are almost 100% comprehensible. Have Spanish and English ever helped! This is a stark contrast to when I started Spanish, when it felt like I could only understand a single word per video.

At 12 hours in, I feel like my French listening comprehension is at a similar level to where I was after 60–80 hours of Spanish. In other words, with around five times fewer hours, my comprehension is at a comparable level. And, I feel like it will only get faster from here.

My daily goal when I started was just 15 minutes, and I’ll keep it there, but I’ve been averaging just over one hour per day. I’m enjoying it just as much as Spanish, and I’ll continue with it. My Dreaming subscription runs out today, so I’m going to watch as many videos as I can, then I’ll move on to Alice Ayel.

So, I've just started French as an experiment. I don't have any daily goals or anything like that, I'm just watching a few videos here and there. Typically, 15 mins per day.

The first hour has been very peculiar. I started with the super-beginner content on Dreaming Spanish, but I've found it a little bit more difficult than the faster beginner videos on YouTube.

With Spanish, I started from 0. Coming to French with a high level of Spanish, the experience has been very different. I can understand certain words clearly, but I understand the overall message and content of the videos I'm watching. With Spanish, I had no clue at the start. Everything was alien.

I've spoken to a few people and they say the 2x multiplier is very real, some ever saying it's more like 3 or 4x faster.

As of right now, I definitely feel like French will be a lot easier and quicker than Spanish. I know I'm only one hour in, but the contrast is stark in how much you already know when you come from Spanish.

I'm going to try and stick with at least 15 mins per day just to see how it goes. I'm still focusing on Spanish and most of my time is invested into it.
