VRC+, but no Steam overlay

I realize this has been a problem for many people in the past. I currently can't find a fix in spite of googling and searching this sub-reddit.

I've tried the majority of old "fixes" (except for uninstalling VRC and Steam). So has anyone had this issue recently? Has anyone been able to remedy this issue?

Thanks in advance :)

How did you discover liminal spaces?

I discovered liminal spaces before I knew they were liminal. Here's how it happened to me.

It's the later half of the 80's, '88 to be exact. I was six. My parents and I were moving across country back to Texas from California. We stopped at your typical mom and pop 80's hotel. It was evening, not quite dark but twilight.

We step out, the road it sits on is in the middle of no where. On one side, it's this hotel. The other just fields. You can hear the crickets chirp in the dimly lit area. Outside the main office there's a neon sign that reads "Open" that blinks every once in a while. There's a soda machine out front with about four chairs next to it all lined up.

It's eerily quiet besides those crickets. The place felt abandoned, I saw no other cars and all the rooms were dark. At first it was a little frightening.

The next day very early in the morning (still dark) we start packing up the car. But as I walk over to the car, I see a door unlike the others. It has a glass pane on the top half with dim lighting coming from within.

For some reason, I thought it was an arcade so I open the door. My parents busy with something.

As I do, it's an empty hallway with chairs lined on each side, wood paneling (typical 80's lol) and a couple of old, fake plants. And at the far end, another door like the one I walked through.

The lighting made it look almost orange, and all I could hear was the hum of the fluorescent lights struggling to illuminate this abandoned place and the crickets in the background.

It felt welcoming in a strange way but at the same time like I'd be in trouble for being there.

Ever since that time, I've been enamored with the feeling not knowing what to call it. Wanting to seek out that comfortable feeling. I'm very happy this is how my liminal journey started, and am very happy to have this memory to fall back on.

It was just such a vivid experience at the time that it became a core memory. It wasn't until about 10 years ago I discovered the term "liminal" and the pieces fell into place.

So what was your first introduction into liminal spaces?

Either real or fake, we all have to start somewhere and I'd like to hear it :)
