How is this not similar to Chinese beauty standards practiced in earlier times?

For hundreds of years in China, small feet were considered beautiful.

So girls’ feet were tightly bound in childhood

to stop them from growing.

The smaller the feet,

the higher the status.

Different times same superstition.
