Advice on a DD wheel for GT7 (casual player)
Hey all,
I’m looking for some advice on buying a new wheel specifically for GT7, and I feel like I’m going in circles a bit.
Quick background:
- I used to own a G29 for a few years, used it occasionally and sold it to upgrade.
- Upgraded to a Logitech G Pro wheel with a PlaySeat Trophy, but ended up selling that because I barely used it and got buyers remorse because it was expensive.
- Last year I bought a Moza R5 set with a Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0, but I mostly just played ETS2. It wasn’t compatible with PlayStation, so no GT7, and I ended up selling the setup after about three months because it was just collecting dust after the honeymoon phase.
I do enjoy racing with a wheel, but I’m a casual player. I have no ambition to get competitive, and I don’t race online. I just boot up GT7 after work, pick a cool car and farm some credits while listening to music. I mostly play for about an hour and call it a day.
Now I’ve got the itch again to buy a wheel, but here’s the 'problem': after using two DD wheels, going back to something like a G29 feels… weird?
So I’m looking for a good Direct Drive wheel set for GT7 that doesn’t completely destroy my wallet but still feels like a worthwhile upgrade (no buyer’s remorse) from a controller and is good for short, casual sessions.
Right now I’m considering:
- Thrustmaster T598 (~€450)
- Fanatec GT DD Pro (~€649)
- Logitech RS50 (~€750-ish from what I’ve seen)
They all seem to have their pros and cons, but I’m struggling to decide. Has anyone here had the chance to try all three, or at least two of them, and can share their experience? Which one would you recommend for someone like me? Thanks in advance 🙏
