In need of new gear and having trouble finding a new pack and pad, everyone keeps saying go to the vendors at trail days and it’s “easy” to get a ride from a trail angels but I’m not finding that to be the case from the Smokies area.

Are there message boards or should I be asking hostel staff?

Any tips welcome, it’s not the end of the world if I don’t make it but would be a unique opportunity to find the perfect gear which could really help turn my hike around right now.

TIA.

I have the Nemo tensor all season and I HATE it, it is so loud and causes me shoulder pain. The only way that I can sleep is to deflate it almost to the point of my hips hitting the ground, and even then, it’s even louder. Sounds like I’m rolling over on a pile of balloons. People near me complain that it’s all they hear all night long.

I need something light enough for thru hiking, QUIET, insulated for all seasons, available in the USA, and comfortable for a side and stomach sleeper.

Looking for recommendations for best places to go to enjoy nature, beaches, mountains, etc. prefer non gentrified small villages or towns. Appreciate slower pace/rural areas. Bonus points if Spanish classes available and snorkeling/diving opportunities.

Really interested in culture, food, and getting to know locals.

TIA.

Pack is killing my back, Gregory 58L that’s 3.5 lbs. Other less important reasons it’s not working for me are very limited outer storage, sways/wobbles no matter how I pack it. Mountain crossings did a pack adjustment said I need a different pack.

Tried on a mountain hardware pack and a aarn pack that has counterbalance not crazy about the front pockets.

Weight is at 28 lbs with water and 2 days food.

Recommendations? Thoughts?
