Are there any recommendation on trusth worthy rental company or is it normally quite safe with any. Any tips regarding this would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance.

Speaking in Tongues - Lets talk!

The video is a snippet of the story of Elizabeth Struhs, who lay dying in her home in Toowoomba while her parents and other members of the religious cult The Saints gathered around her and sang.

They withheld her life-saving insulin medication, believing God would heal her.

This snippet brought back such a vivid flashback for me. I was in a very similar baptism tank and was pushed into the water the same way, without much warning. I was 16.

It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life. I felt lost, overwhelmed, and completely flooded with adrenaline. There were so many people around me shouting in tongues — yes, shouting, not speaking — and I remember trembling.

I guess part of me felt happy then because, after struggling for so long to “speak in tongues,” I finally felt a sense of belonging.

For context, in Revival Faith Assembly in Singapore, we were taught that we needed to receive the Holy Spirit by speaking in tongues before we could be baptised. I was told that in order to receive the Holy Spirit, all I had to do was repeatedly say “hallelujah” until my words slowly turned into gibberish — and that was supposed to mean the Holy Spirit had entered me.

To be honest, if I wanted to, I could still “speak in tongues” today because it was really just gibberish with no meaning. Deep down, though, I know it was nothing more than a learned behaviour — a collective act of belief convincing us that the Holy Spirit was within us.

But was it really? I honestly don’t think so.

Did you also speak in tongues? What was your experience like? And what do you think speaking in tongues really is?

Considering going back on Omeprazole

I was on omeprazole for a week ish every time there is a flare up although GP think I should be on it for 2-3 months to see effects. However, I read a lot of negative comments on taking PPIs so naturally I’m trying to avoid it as much as I can. Omeprazole helps a lot I must say, most symptoms are gone except my bowel movement slowed down drastically. Does anyone have this side effects and how do you managed that?

I’m going to schedule for an endoscopy soon but for now I’m thinking perhaps I should go back on omeprazole till the scope just to manage the symptoms but I’m also abit worry about the constipation to come. What’s your thoughts? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Stonehaven is such a cute little town!

This little town in Scotland is such a gem, I could imagine myself retiring there. And a great spot to visit Dunnottar Castle and the War Memorial! We had a lovely week there 🙂

List the names of Cult-Like Practice Churches in Singapore - let’s Go!

I was an ex-cult member and recognised the amount of damage it does to innocent people. These are the people who truly seek to find peace with God but in return, they are being manipulated and controlled by these leader who claimed to speak the word of God, twisting the scriptures to suit their own beliefs and power. With this in Mind, I know there are more cults-like churches in Singapore and would really like to bring awareness to the public so they be well informed before they join group or church of such.

Churches may be described as “cult-like” when they show controlling or manipulative behaviour rather than healthy spiritual leadership. Common warning signs include:

- Leaders who demand unquestioning obedience
- Fear-based teaching (“you’ll be cursed if you leave”)
- Isolation from family or outsiders who are “non believer”
- Excessive control over dating, marriage, finances, or daily life
- Pressure to give large amounts of money or unpaid labour (for example duties during service)
- Public shaming, guilt, or humiliation when one make a “mistake” according to their book
- Claiming they are the “only true church”
- Discouraging critical thinking or questions
- Protecting leadership from accountability
- Members feeling fear, anxiety, or loss of identity

Here are the list : (to add)
1 - Revival Faith Assembly - Singapore

Would appreciate any contribution from the public to add to the list. For those who have experienced of any of such group/church, you can comment or DM me with info and I will add to the list.

Any ex–Revival Faith Assembly members here? Would really like to hear your story

Hi everyone,

I’m a former member of Revival Faith Assembly (RFA) in Sngapore. After leaving and having some distance, I’ve come to see my experience quite differently, and I now have serious concerns about the environment and some of the practices there.

I know this can be a sensitive and personal topic, but I’m hoping to connect with others who were part of RFA—whether your experience was positive, difficult, or mixed. It would really mean a lot to hear different perspectives and stories.

If you’re open to sharing, I’d be interested in things like:

  • What drew you to RFA initially?
  • What your experience was like over time
  • Whether your views changed at any point
  • What led you to stay or eventually leave
  • How things have been for you since

No pressure at all—feel free to share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with. You can comment here or DM me if you’d prefer to keep it private.

Thanks for reading, and I genuinely appreciate anyone willing to share 🙏

What “cult-like” church or group have you experienced?

I thought it might be helpful to create a space where people can openly share the churches, ministries, religious groups, or organisations they personally experienced as controlling, manipulative, or cult-like.

This is not about attacking religion or judging people for their faith. Many of us joined sincerely, looking for community, purpose, healing, or God — and only later realised certain behaviours were unhealthy.

Some common experiences people mention include:
Fear-based teachings
Isolation from family or outsiders
Excessive control over personal life
Pressure to obey leadership without question
Guilt, shame, or fear used to keep members compliant
Financial pressure or manipulation
Discouraging critical thinking or outside information
“Us vs them” mentality
Spiritual abuse disguised as care or discipline

Share your experience and if you like include the name of the church/group. Sometimes hearing other stories helps people make sense of their own experiences. Let’s go!

👋Welcome to r/singaporecult - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! I’m u/Sudden-Ad9105, one of the founding moderators of r/singaporecult.

I created this community because I realised there are not many safe spaces in Singapore for people to openly discuss unhealthy church experiences, spiritual manipulation, religious trauma, or cult-like environments without fear of judgement.

This community was created as a safe and respectful space for discussions about cult-like churches, spiritual abuse, religious trauma, and unhealthy church experiences in Singapore. Whether you are a former member, currently questioning your environment, or simply wanting to understand more about high-control religious groups, you are welcome here.

What You Can Post
• Personal experiences and stories
• Discussions about manipulation, fear, control, or toxic church culture
• Questions about leaving high-control groups
• Support, healing, and recovery journeys
• Awareness and educational discussions related to cult-like practices in Singapore churches
• News articles, resources, podcasts, or documentaries related to the topic

Community Values
This is not a hate group against Christianity or religion. We encourage respectful, thoughtful, and constructive discussions. Everyone’s experiences are different, and we ask members to engage with empathy and maturity.

Please do not:
• Harass or attack others
• Share private information or doxx people
• Make false or unverified accusations
• Encourage hate speech or targeted bullying

How to Get Started

  1. Introduce yourself in the comments if you feel comfortable.
  2. Share a story, question, or resource.
  3. Support others with kindness and respect.
  4. Invite others who may benefit from this community.

Thank you for being part of the beginning of r/singaporecult. Hopefully this space can become a place of support, awareness, healing, and honest conversation for many people.

This place is probably underrated by tourists, but we had such a beautiful time there. Along the way, we spotted a baby adder and even built a dam in the river! If anyone ever visiting Scotland and love hike / walks, do check this out 🫶

I need to get this off my chest and I’m hoping for kindness and no judgement.

We visited Bullers of Buchan recently as a family with our 11-year-old son. The views were absolutely stunning, but after getting home and looking back at the videos and photos, I honestly feel shaken.

At the time, we followed some of the narrow cliff paths and climbed around areas that, in hindsight, were much more dangerous than I realised in the moment. Nothing happened, thankfully, but replaying it in my mind has made my heart sink. I keep thinking about “what if”.

I’ve been carrying a lot of guilt since then. I feel like I should have made a better decision as a parent and turned back earlier. My son trusted us completely, and that thought alone has been hard to sit with.

I know many people visit there safely, and maybe others would not think twice about the paths, but for me it was a wake-up call about how quickly beautiful places can become risky, especially with cliffs, wind, loose ground and children around.

I’m posting because I honestly can’t stop thinking about it and wondered if anyone else has ever experienced that delayed fear after an outing — where you only realise afterwards how dangerous something could have been.

Please be kind with your comments as I already feel bad enough about it. 🙏🏻
