coming to WVU for an REU this summer, i have so many questions

hey everyone! i will be starting my summer REU in WVU on the 18th (super excited!) and this will be my first time in WVU (and the state of West Virginia overall). i haven't gotten a whole lot of information on my living situation however, apart from the fact that i will be living in Brooke Tower in a double room, and i will get a stipend + $250 for travel & meals, but would need to provide my own meals otherwise.

currently my main concern is food. does Brooke Tower have a communal fridge, kitchen, or microwaves in case i want to cook every once in a while or even just make instant noodles. also, are there a whole lot of vegetarian options on/around campus? i am vegetarian so that always concerns me a bit.

in general i'm also wondering what facilities i would be given access to. i'm hoping to work on a personal project over the summer so i would like to use any makerspaces there if that is at all possible, in addition to general places like the gym, library etc. also will there be shuttle buses reliably operating during the summer?

finally i would love any recommendations for things to do on/around campus while i'm there for the next 10 weeks!!

REU in WVU this summer, i have so many questions

hey everyone! i will be starting my REU in WVU on the 18th (super excited!) and this will be my first time in WVU (and the state of West Virginia overall) as well as my first REU. i haven't gotten a whole lot of information on my living situation however, apart from the fact that i will be living in Brooke Tower in a double room, and i will get a $7k stipend + $250 for travel & meals, but would need to provide my own meals otherwise.

currently my main concern is food. does Brooke Tower have a communal fridge, kitchen, or microwaves in case i want to cook every once in a while or even just make instant noodles. also, are there a whole lot of vegetarian options on/around campus? i am vegetarian so that always concerns me a bit.

in general i'm also wondering what facilities i will be given access to as an REU student. i'm hoping to work on a personal project over the summer so i would like to use any makerspaces there if that is at all possible, in addition to general places like the gym, library etc. also will there be shuttle buses reliably operating during the summer?

finally, i'm also wondering what hours would look like, and i guess this is a question for REUs in general. do they tend to be like a 9-5 or more self-paced? i also haven't gotten check-in information either (apart from the fact that its on the 18th from 9am-11am...which i thought would be like during work hours so i'm a bit confused about that too) so would now be a good time to follow up on that information or should i wait for them to provide it a couple days before the start?

didn't realize this would be such a long post lmao thanks for bearing with me
