I have a dog aggressive or resource guarding Akita Mix.
Severity is oddly new. We need a muzzle for her at this time. What type and size would work best for preventing biting, but allow for eating/drinking?
This is a throw away account because it caught me out of the blue. We've had the dog that snapped since Fall of last year.
Today, went to open the chest freezer - and both dogs acted like they were going to steal something out of it. Failed, but the one dog just snapped. Attacking the other dog relentlessly.
We're on the other end of that. The issue is, there was no warning, and she couldn't be deterred. I won't state everything we tried - even when separated, she was out for the other dog, and it was on again.
I am not unfamiliar with resource guarding, which is what I presume set this off. But access to the chest freezer was cut off immediately.
We were lucky to save our one dog. We've been warned there could still be unseen injuries that got missed.
Contacted Animal Control for an intake. She didn't bite a human, so they refuse to do an intake.
No shelter will take her. Animal Control and the Vet suggested crating her except for doing her business, make sure to use a muzzle.
So, we've listed her for free, saying should be only dog, and now are trying to order a muzzle.
If she hadn't been okay for more than 6 months straight, I would have removed her already. This came without warning.
I don't trust that she hasn't snapped and wouldn't bite a person.
I'll never own a large dog again after this.
Anyhow, I suppose I could use some muzzle recommendations, please. She's got a wide head, fairly normal muzzle, weighs about 75 lbs and lots of fur.
