What I’d love to see for a new Quicksilver solo series

Quicksilver is a character who has the opportunity to be one of the coolest and favorite characters in the entire Marvel universe, yet he keeps being critically underutilized. Some say this is due to Quicksilver being too unlikeable to write for, some say this is due to power scaling issues, but truthfully those are all minor concerns for how a Quicksilver story could work. For this semi pitch I’ll be detailing everything I want in a Quicksilver solo stories.

- 1. Lean into his weaknesses. Quicksilver’s super speed is just as much of a superpower as it is a psychological weakness. He has heroic impulses and believes greatly in protecting the persecuted; this goes back to his Romani upbringing and his former membership with the Brotherhood. However, Quicksilver literally believes he is faster and smarter than everyone, which makes him feel impossible to be around. Psychological weakness for a speedster is super important for power scaling with the rest of the universe.
- 2. Create a new status quo. Quicksilver has been a part time Avenger and X-Men for essentially the last 20 years. He’s never had his own unique quo beyond this. This story should create this. My personal pitch is that he’d encounter other speedsters in the Marvel universe who are new with their powers, being hunted by some mysterious new scientific group. The scientific group part is important, it’ll tie into a later point. But the point for this section is that Quicksilver isn’t choosing to “slow down”, but rather Quicksilver is actively choosing not to run away. It’d be so easy for Quicksilver to run away, and he might even say that the issue isn’t his problem, but because of his fundamental heroism he won’t ever run away. Over time, this group of new speedsters builds up around Quicksilver. He doesn’t found it, he doesn’t name it, it won’t even call it an organization, but he will never abandon it, because Quicksilver is a hero.
- 3. Establish Quicksilver’s relationship to the Marvel cosmology. Jonathan Hickman’s “G.O.D.S.” established two new Ur-Divisors: The-Powers-That-Be and The-Natural-Order-of-Things. New Scarlet Witch stories have explicitly tied her to the Powers That Be, which is the Ur divisor that represents magic in the Marvel universe. Quicksilver is science incarnate; speed being the most scientific power in the Marvel universe, because of how physics applies to it and how the physiology of Pietro’s body had to adapt to the power. It would be obvious and a lay-up to tie Pietro to the Natural order of things. Especially since Pietro’s latest major role, in the miniseries Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, literally described Scarlet WItch as magic and Pietro as science.
How would this tie back to earlier? Earlier I described the scientific organization. We can establish that this organization is trying to document speed based power usage in order to design their new weapon: the stilled moment. This device would be able to stop time in an entire city. No war crimes would be committed, nobody could report on the incident, and once you go in you cannot leave. It’s the perfect weapon and one that Pietro discovers as part of his own organization thing. We also establish that the organization is treading to close to the Natural Order of things, and we start to see Centivars start interacting. And after some time, the Natural Order of Things will be tied to Pietro.
- 4. The Villains. Quicksilver really doesn’t have any villains the same way other heroes do. Iron Man has Mandarin, Spider-Man has three, Captain America has Red Skull, even Hawkeye has Crossfire. Oddly enough, the only exclusively-Quicksilver villain we really ever had was this guy called Oort. He is a fun story to read about on the Marvel Wiki. But yeah, this run would need to establish some new villains. For starters, scientists from this evil science organization would be some new supervillains, obviously. You can kind of assume how that would work. But as for some existing supervillains in the Marvel Universe
- Graviton. I made a post about this recently that discusses why this would be an awesome choice.
- Whirlwind. Same concept, is an awesome foil for Quicksilver.
- Exodus. They have actually clashed in the past before and that can be brought back.
- Taskmaster. This one could just be fun.
- Maximus and the High Evolutionary could be theoretically brought up but personally I think their stories have already been too established.
- Tempo: he can slow down time. Obvious rivalry can be built there.
- Tinkerer: maybe he can be tied to this new speed organization.

As for the author of this story, I wouldn’t be opposed to Jed McKay, given his relationship with under utilized characters like with Black Cat. But i’m content with anyone. For the artist I’d love Nick Robles, who is currently drawing Absolute Flash, since those visuals are just so cool. But those are just my suggestions.

Whatever the story though, what this story truly needs is to establish Quicksilver’s supporting cast and give him a section of the world to live in. Also, hot take, I actually would like to see Polaris more in this comic than Wanda, and really flesh out that relationship more.

Cameo / one time appearances I’d love to see:
- Captain America. The one man Pietro basically idolizes
- Wanda: necessary at this point, but this should only be for like one issue
- Beast: idk why I feel like this relationship would be so fun
- Hawkeye: ego clash
- Daredevil: Quicksilver has to go to Hell’s kitchen, finds Daredevil also there

"Originally a gravity researcher, Franklin Hall gains the ability to control gravity. Corrupted by this power, he becomes a supervillain using the name "Graviton". He is confronted and defeated by the Avengers as he tried to destroy the facility where he did his original research. In subsequent appearances, Graviton seems to struggle with control of his powers and often loses because of this. More than one storyline has depicted Graviton's apparent death, only for him to return subsequently through various means. He later becomes part of Advanced Idea Mechanics' High Council as Minister of Science."

This would genuinely be super cool for a Quicksilver villain. Naturally counters Quicksilver's powers but not an extreme level... writers!
