El or la radio?

Hola! I'm 57. My parents were Cuban and spoke Spanish to me growing up. I coasted through 2 years of Spanish in High School, and then tested out of the 10 hours of language I needed for my Bachelor's. I understand and can read Spanish fairly well, but not so much when I try to write or speak it.

All that being said, I have never really studied Spanish, so three months ago I decided to start Duolingo. It's been so much fun and I have learned a good bit already. One thing that troubles me currently on Duo is "La radio". I am certain that my parents always said "el radio". Am I misremembering this? My parents always corrected me when I said the wrong things in Spanish, I feel like this would have been a biggie.
