Surat Metro is designed for fully driverless operations which is why Engineers from GMRC and the General Engineering Consultant (GEC) are finetuning Train to Ground Radio. Because the metro is built on a driverless CBTC (Communication-Based Train Control) platform, they are testing the millisecond delays in emergency braking signals between the track sensors and the train.
The interior of Surat Metro Rail coaches will be designed keeping in mind the culture of Gujarat and Surat and industries that are synonymous with Surat's identity. Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation is planning to incorporate themes like diamond shape, garba, textile industry etc.
As of May 2026, the overall Surat Metro project has crossed 75% completion, with initial trial runs for Phase-I underway
Authorities say that Red line may be operational from June (Probably mid-end June)
Corridoor 1 - Red Line - Inside the Dream City depot, workers are now retrofitting the train interiors. To honor local identity, GMRC is installing custom interior panels utilizing diamond-cut geometric patterns on the grab-bars and ceilings, alongside subtle textile weave graphics on the walls to match the "Diamond Corridor" identity
Corridor 2 - Green Line - 500 Hour testing has been started already

Sanitary Waste
SMC completely killed a proposal to purchase 10 new Mahindra Thars for top municipal brass. This was happened after local media reports sparked public outrage, when the citizens were mockingly asking if officials needed off roaders just to navigate Surat's broken roads. Additional City Engineer (Workshop) Ashish Nayak confirmed the Commissioner originally floated the idea, but SMC issued a clarification that there is "no active consideration" to buy them unless a high-tier emergency arises.
SMC has launched a 24/7 Digital Help Line Desk Chatbot for immediate info on streetlights, water, road repairs, certificates (birth/death), and building permissions.
Dont you think aajkal humare instagram news pages have been posting irrelevant things and cringe content? I personally feel like they have forgotten their role as a news page.
And yes after many dms and comments, i have now stopped using AI completely to frame these updates, Im typing it all on my own. Kuch cheezein mai directly copy paste karta hu agar wo SMC ke official updates ho toh, (if they've used AI then i cannot help lol)
Btw the source of these news are - Instagram news pages lol, twitter, TOI, Deshgujarat
- None of the stations are maintained at all,
- Jhaadu se cleaning hoti hai but it does not clear the dirt that has been stuck for years
- The AFCS gates do not work at all and SMC seems to do nothing about it.
- People do not know how these doors work, they tend to just push it open on their own, and that's the biggest failure of SMC, they could have put stickers to STOP ppl from interacting with the sliding doors.
- It's all a waste, our city's public transport will never get fixed if the SMC does not put proper efforts and if the citizens do not understand even to the slightest bits.
So I recently learnt about the Bharat Yatra card and our city has a poor public transport system that is Surat BRTS,
We have a Surat money card here which is provided by ICICI Bank, it is also an NCMC card powered by RUPAY.
So thought if both the cards share the same tech, then maybe somehow I can use it for my BRTS bus transit? It cost me 19 rupees as I ordered it on Zepto.

Please ignore whatever I have said in the video. I did not plan to upload this. I was just talking to my friends anyways. So basically the thing is that my city has a large coverage of these BRTS stations but none of them are maintained properly, they are dirty, the afcs gate does not work at all and they have been disabled by the municipal corporation, they are only used for NFC cards which are under a scheme.
The sliding doors do not open properly at all and even the bus drivers are reckless. They do not care if the passengers are able to get off the bus properly or not, there have been many times when I was travelling via the BRTS bus and the sliding door wouldn't open, the bus would run away and I would clean to the sliding door and push it open manually, and people here have become comfortable with that, they always touch the sliding doors and just use their full energy to open it as their brains have been hardwired that the door is meant to be opened by them.
Well one thing is that the municipal corporation recently revamped the e-ticketing app, while it looks like a college project app but it works so that so good thing, but whatever was promised that people will be able to track the bus live using itms and what not, live occupancy feature, none of them are available in the app, the Google maps integration for tracking the bus does not work at all and it is highly prone to error.
I feel sad that public transport here is not maintained properly and the City is really pushing the metro construction on a blazing speed, while I love the metro but BRTS just walks as it is way more cheaper and it provides AC buses, but with a catch that the diverts are reckless and the system is completely Unmaintained
