Route size in larger locals

In my locals jurisdiction there are roughly 5000 units. My service route has about 250. There are a couple route mechanics in my area with 500 units on their route. Is this normal nowadays in other areas? I know the independents in my area have a rule to not go over 150 units per route. I work for a big 4 company. I have many units I have never laid eyes on despite the customers paying for quarterly maintenance. Some of the retirees tell me their first route was 60 units. I know things have changed a lot over 40 years.

Tool brand for expensed tools

What is the nicest brand of tools you guys expense for metric hand tools and other tools that aren’t on the tool list? Obviously nobody wants to expense the cheapest options like harbor freight Pittsburgh wrenches or Amazon basics. On the other end of the spectrum my superintendent would probably be a little mad if I expense snap on. Most guys in my area stick to craftsman, Milwaukee, Klein, and whatever is available at the local supply house their shop has an account at. Has anybody been able to justify premiums brands and get away with it? I’m just curious.
