Rewatched Parava today. Feel Imran is DQ's most immersive performance.
I've not been the biggest fan of DQ as an actor. Sure he's provided us with some blockbusters and has been one of the defining faces of his generation as a star. But I've always felt that he's limited as an actor. I've felt that he was best suited for the urban roles that he has played in Ustad Hotel, Bangalore Days and ABCD. Maybe because of his out of state upbringing, it was much more convincing when he plays these types of roles.
But upon revisiting Parava, I feel this might be his most immersive performance. That is, I don't see DQ the star. I only see Imran. He hardly has 30 plus minutes of screentime but the impact is lasting. He's worked well to incorporate the slang of Mattancherry and Imran being the leader and guiding light of the small group feels believable. Ustad Hotel still remains my favourite DQ movie and performamce, but Imran now feels special. What do you guys think?
