James Harden has played some of the worst defense I've ever seen during this Knicks comeback

It's not an exaggeration to say that 70-80% of the run has been against him lmao

You just can't be having this in a crucial game the Knicks' whole adjustment was just "go at Harden"

Dirk Nowitzki after game 2: "The Lakers are always the ones who usually win the free throw battle. This is new to them that they're getting clobbered more often."

All MVP seasons since 2010 ranked by their free throw rate. I included SGA's season this year in the list as he's the presumed winner based on current info.

Nothing fancy here just their rate of drawing fouls relative to their shots attempted

Obviously there's some context to this such that teams don't mind fouling Giannis at times

Free throw rate

2. 2019 Giannis 0.550
3. 2020 Giannis 0.508
4. 2010 LeBron 0.506
5. 2018 Harden 0.503
6. 2014 Durant 0.477
7. 2026 SGA 0.465
8. 2017 Westbrook 0.433
9. 2012 LeBron 0.429
10. 2025 SGA 0.404
11. 2013 LeBron 0.395
12. 2022 Jokic 0.357
13. 2011 Rose 0.344
14. 2024 Jokic 0.310
15. 2021 Jokic 0.305

There's been a lot of discourse about who's getting the most free throws so I thought this would be interesting to look at (free throw rate is just free throw attempts per FGA)

2. James Harden 0.47
3. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 0.46
4. Luka Doncic 0.44
5. Devin Booker 0.43
6. Keyonte George 0.43
7. Norman Powell 0.36
8. Anthony Edwards 0.35
9. Cade Cunningham 0.32
10. Donovan Mitchell 0.31
11. Desmond Bane 0.29
12. Jamal Murray 0.29
13. Jalen Brunson 0.29
14. Tyrese Maxey 0.28
15. Stephen Curry 0.28
16. Nickeil Alexander-Walker 0.26
17. Shaedon Sharpe 0.23
18. Tyler Herro 0.21
19. LaMelo Ball 0.14

Notably these averages don't really represent how he played in any individual game

Normally this is exaggerated but his best games can win you games by itself while his worst games can lose you games by itself

He’s either LeBron or Cam Thomas from game to game nothing in between

This series alone he’s had multiple insanely good games and multiple vomit inducing games

It feels like somehow this is going under the radar because they started off the series strong but IMO relative to expectations this would be worse than the Pistons

Everyone was talking about how Boston are the clear most complete team in the East and maybe even the only threat to OKC/Spurs if they lose this that's legit terrible given how high the bar was for them

Against all odds this trend may continue after all of the Wolves' injuries

Not sure how common it is to be so rarely on either end of an upset lol

But when you really need a bucket they just don't have the juice at all
