Looking for cap replacement recommendation for discontinued caps?

Hey guys!

Currently doing a recap on a very high end VCR (Panasonic AG-1980p) and am coming up short on a few of the caps. The Panasonic VCR was built in the 90's and has seen many iterations of capacitors introduced over the years afterwards. Thankfully someone made a recommendation of a replacement on the recap list, but now those are also no longer being produced.

I realize this may be a pain of a post but I've never had to spec out replacement caps like this so I'm a little intimidated, especially on such a high-end machine. I'd prefer a Panasonic or Nichon equivalent if possible and don't mind shelling out a couple extra bucks for better caps, but could really use some help coming up with good replacements. Neither DigiKey or Mouser had any recommended alternatives which I found strange. I used 4 different AI assistants and got 4 completely different answers (some with bad info in their explanation), so I figured I'd ask here with people who actually know what they're doing. Height does not seem like a major issue but I'd obviously not to go significantly larger than the original. I'm also placing my order on Mouser so I'm looking for ones that are currently in stock.

The model numbers are:

ECEA1HKAR22 (recommended equivalent was EEA-GA1HR22)

ECEA1HKAR47 (recommended equivalent was UPJ1HR47MDD1TD)

ECEA1HKNR47 bipolar (recommended equivalent was UVP1HR47MDD1TD)

ECEA1HKA010 (recommended equivalent was UVY1H010MDD1T)

If I could get any help in finding the best modern equivalents that would be a huge help! Thank you so much for reading!

Best way to disconnect [these specific] old ribbon connectors?

Edit: Figured out the ribbon cables, still trying to figure out the traditional wire connectors on the left.

I’m repairing an old ‘90s Panasonic VCR with a set of controls on a front door (clear ribbons on the right) and another PCB in the front panel connecting it to the rest of the board (left 3 connectors). I had a difficult time removing the last connector that was like the 3 in the left, and felt like I was doing something wrong before it finally came loose. I’d rather not do that again with these 3. Also the cables on the right appear to be connected to the white tabs on the side but they don’t seem to budge when I lightly pry on them (and being clear plastic I’m concerned it’s grown brittle over the last 30 years). Have you guys found any tricks to disconnect these safely without damaging the connectors? Would love some advice if possible. Thanks!

Looking for a recommendation for first LCR meter to create proper “recap” list

Hey guys!

I’m a pretty competent solderer and love doing my own DIY electronic projects. I’ve done several “recaps” on well known electronics like TV boards and my GameCube disc drive, however I’ve never had to do a proper testing of caps and build a true “recap list” for a piece. They’ve always had well documented lists or orderable kits.

I recently picked up a pair of Panasonic AG 1980p VCRs for roughly $250 a piece (which is very good for a parts/not working unit, normally going for $350-$450). Recapped and serviced they can go for $1,300, which is pretty wild (and there’s a lot of work involved in getting there).

The main issue is there’s many internal boards, many of which do not have dedicated or accurate “cap lists” to replace everything in the device. There are some lists that are helpful, but I’d rather know and have a plan ahead of time to come up with an adequate shopping list to avoid 5+ orders for caps.

That’s a long way to say, I’d like the ability to easily and accurately test the caps while still on the board not only to gauge a general replacement, but also to document for the small VCR community which caps were bad in this unit to help people in the future. I was looking at LCR meters and there are a LOT of options, some which seem great, some not so much.

If you were to buy your first LCR meter over again (for less than $200), what would you buy if you were only working on small consumer electronics? I was considering one of the FNIRSI smart tweezers off Amazon as a cheap/convenient option that could be supplemented later by a proper LCR meter, but was also tempted to just bite the bullet and get a DE-5000. I don’t want to buy something that I’ll just upgrade later and never use again, so I thought the tweezers might be a cool and easy option that will still be in my tool belt later.

If anyone has any thoughts please let me know! Thanks for reading!
