I have an open MMC application in the “Approved to test” phase. I am taking radar this week and don’t plan on testing until late June.

Traditionally I’ve never had an issue adding information to open MMC applications, and it’s actually been a back door way for me to speed up the process by applying before I have all the requirements, and then adding the info as I get it so I already have a head start on the processing.

I’m just wondering now with all the shenanigans going on if the NMC will have time to open my email and add radar to my application before I test around June 20 (assuming testing is back open by then)

Any insight to this is appreciated as I don’t want to get my mates license and have it be useless for 8-12 months waiting for radar to be processed.

I recently accepted an SIU AB job with American Steamship Company on the Great Lakes. Afterwards I started looking into the company and was not able to find a single person willing to say a positive thing about their experience working there. The reviews are too concerning to overlook.

I agreed to the position and its low pay because I wanted to try something different, but I didn’t agree to a horrible work environment. That being said, today I think Im going to let them know I won’t be sailing with them even though I was supposed to ship out this week. I feel bad doing it, but I’m not going to put myself into a bad situation.

Does anybody on here currently for ASC on the SIU side?

I have already accepted an offer from them as an AB and am supposed to ship soon, but upon further research from reading what people say on here and on SIU Facebook groups, I am seriously reconsidering.

I was looking forward to working on a 1000 foot Great Lakes freighter despite the lower pay, what would be a deal breaker for me is being worked like an absolute dog, not getting paid Sundays, not getting any sleep, and bad food.

Is it really as bad as everyone online is saying?
