Why did coffee culture arrive so late in the UK?

Cafe Nero started in the 90s and Starbucks came in 1998 and it took almost a decade before they appeared in most towns and cities.

Now every town has at least one of each (if not more) plus a few more independents coffee shops thrown in.

I remember in the 90s and 00s it was very rare to see people out and about with coffee. Now every other man and woman walks round with a coffee cup.

Why did it take so long to catch on in the UK? In most of Europe its been the norm to have quality coffee for a century.

Novels with disabled characters

This includes developmental, learning impaired, and physical disabilities.

I feel I've barely read a single novel where a main character is disabled.

Tattoo prices decreasing? (UK)

I've noticed many artists I like dropping prices of late. I had a two hour tattoo for £100. That's easily pre covid rates.

Is this due to too many artists or just lower demand among the young for tattoos?

Love my job but there's zero job progression or financial benefits.

I'm a support worker working with disabled adults and its the first job I've loved for over a decade.

Before this i was miserable and working as a teacher for 8 years.

Its amazing to finally feel happy but its awkward that a meaningful job that helps people only earns about 24k a year.

Anyone else been through this? Do you stay and be poor but happy or do you quit and chase the money?
