I’ve been tracking the flights in October and so far Qantas, Delta, United and American have all been roughly the same price (approx £466) however this evening both Delta and United dropped to £397.

I booked the Delta flight since they have 24 hour free cancellation in the hope the Qantas flight will follow the pricing and decrease and then I’ll cancel and book that.

My questions are:
I believe Delta (A350) is slightly better than United (777) in both airline and aircraft so this was the correct one to book?

I was planning to book Qantas (A380) as I believe this is the best option of the above - is it worth an extra £70 (approx $95) at the current prices?

I’ve never flown any of the above 4 airlines so would appreciate thoughts on if economy on any airline is worth paying the extra or just stick with the cheapest!

I’m doing a once in a lifetime trip to Australia in October and part of that is a one way flight back in business class from Melbourne to London with Qatar on Nov 7th which I booked with 90k points/£274.

Obviously with the situation ongoing I am worried this flight will be cancelled and I’m not protected under EU laws or anything. Plus I will only get back points which obviously will not help me get home at that time!

I am wondering what I can do to have a backup option or what other people would do in this situation? I’m worried if it gets cancelled it’s going to cost an insane amount to get home! And as far as I know Qatar are no longer re-routing through other airlines. I know no one knows what will happen later in the year but I just would like to be prepared for the worst.

I’ve had a look and there’s nothing else business class available for those points (which will be sitting in BA). What would be another option?
