Starter problems(2002 Civic)
I had a starter that was going bad. At first it would click a few times before finally starting, so I replaced it with one from RockAuto.
After installing the new starter, the car started right away, but it makes a loud screech or grinding noise almost every time I start it. Once in a while it starts normally with no noise. A friend told me it might be “new starter noise,” so I gave it some time, but it’s been about a month and it’s still happening.
It sounds like the starter is grinding on the flywheel. I’m trying to figure out if this means the starter I bought is bad, or if there’s something else going on.
Should I return this starter and get another one? If so, should I go with another RockAuto unit or get one from somewhere else?
Also, if anyone hears anything unusual with the engine itself, let me know. I’m new to Hondas. It’s a 2002 Civic with 211k miles. So far I’ve done spark plugs, ignition coils, oil change, and the starter. I haven’t changed any other fluids yet.
What would you recommend I do next to keep this car running reliably for the next 6 months?
