Why do people keep buying complex AI systems when a ₹0 script would have solved their problem?

genuinely curious about something i keep observing.

i talk to a lot of business owners about automation. and almost every single one of them has been pitched some elaborate multi-agent AI system with a beautiful dashboard and a monthly subscription that costs more than their first hire.and when i actually dig into what their real problem is?

I t's something like "we keep running out of stock before we notice" or "we miss DMs from customers because nobody's watching the phone at 2am" or "we spend 3 hours every monday pulling the same report manually" like… that's it. that's the whole problem.None of those need a complex AI system. they need one focused automation that does one thing. reliably. every time.but somehow the industry has convinced everyone that simple = not serious. that if it doesn't have 15 moving parts and a fancy UI it's not worth paying for.I think that's completely backwards.the businesses winning with automation right now aren't running the most sophisticated systems. they're running the most reliable ones. What's the simplest automation you've seen actually move the needle for a business?
