Speed Editor vs Stream Deck+ XL for dials in DaVinci Resolve – what are you using?

I'm a technology journalist editing one-on-one interviews in DaVinci Resolve – roughly 1–2 per week plus shorts. Raw interviews run about 30 minutes; finished videos around 20.

Most of my edit time goes into cutting dialogue down to something snappy and information dense.

I have a Speed Editor and I'm reasonably comfortable with it, but the jog dial does nothing useful in Fairlight or Colour. I also have a Logitech mouse and I know the scroll wheel might be mappable to those dials, but I tried briefly without luck.

I also have the original Stream Deck. I've just come across the Stream Deck+ XL profile pack for DaVinci Resolve (screenshot attached) – 1,300+ pre-programmed commands, dial support across Edit, Colour, Fairlight, and Fusion.

For those editing interview-heavy content in Resolve: are you using the Stream Deck+ XL dials over the Speed Editor or a mouse for colour and audio work? Is it actually faster in practice, or is it marginal? I'd rather not go down the path of a full Blackmagic colour panel.

Bad idea? Bridging a Rotel RMB-1066 for a 6-ohm Center (Krix Centrix)

Hey everyone,

I’ve just picked up a vintage Krix Centrix center speaker (6-ohm nominal) to anchor my front stage, which consists of Gale 401Cs and a DEQX A250 power amp.

I’m using a Rotel RMB-1066 (6-channel) to power my surrounds and now this new center. According to the Rotel manual, bridging a pair of channels delivers 150W, but specifies an 8-ohm minimum load.

Since the Krix is 6 ohms, I know I’m technically pushing the amp into a territory where it "sees" a 3-ohm load per channel.

My setup context:

Processor: Yamaha CX-A5000.

Crossover: I would normally set the Center to "large" but thinking I should set the Center to "Small" with an 80Hz crossover to let my SVS PB2000 Pro subwoofter handle the heavy lifting.

Usage: Purely for dialogue/movies. I’m not a "reference volume" listener, but interested in 150W headroom for clarity.

Cooling: The Rotel is in a well-ventilated server rack on its own shelf.

Gemini says that bridging is a bit risky given the above limitations, and I should set the center channel to "small". Or I could just use a single channel on the Rotel and run it as "large".

What's the best option?

Is bridging for a 6-ohm center channel safe enough if I’m crossing over at 80Hz? Or am I better off sticking to a single 60W channel?

TIA,

Sholto

Blackmagic 2110 - why the hate?

Hey everyone, I’ve been reading the commentary on the latest Blackmagic release, and one thing I don’t understand.

Many people are saying SDI isn’t broken and that 2110 is only for really large broadcasting and is irrelevant to small studios.

But I've been looking at building a fly pack for a mobile studio, and the 2110 gear seems much more space efficient. For example, if Gemini is right, this stack can record 4x 4k ISO plus program in a 4U shallow case:

Device Width Height Price (USD) Price (AUD incl. GST)
Ethernet Switch 820 Full 1U $2,295 ~$3,850
IP Converter 4x12G PWR Full 1U $2,995 ~$5,035
ATEM 1 M/E 2110 IP Studio Full 1U $2,895 ~$4,865
HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G Half 1U $4,995 ~$8,395
Cloud Dock 2 Half 1U $495 ~$865

(Yes, a 6U once you add power, cooling, etc.)

Plus there's one cable that goes from the flypack to each camera carrying video, tally, power, etc. No need to source power for all the cameras, just the rack. Much simpler to set up and pack down.

The pricing is pretty much similar to BM's SDI gear, even a little cheaper.

My background is IT rather than AV, so maybe I have a bias towards digitising the crap out of everything.

But isn't this just a lot more efficient?
