Light Novel 5: Question to those who finished the books.
Something confuses me about the loop system. I am on my second read through and I find myself wandering about artificial souls.
I understand the want to preserve the souls of current living humans. But it seems that souls over all are not really needed here. If we make artificial humans who can make babies, than wouldn't these babies have their own souls. Made brand new when the baby is born? Its not like when we have kids now someone needs to force a soul into our children for them to exist...
I get that this is science fantasy. I should just accept this as story magic. But I think this is the only thing in the loop system that takes me out of the story.
Edit: Ok thanks for the people who replied. With this help and a bit of deeper thinking I think I understand this a little better. There is a cultural difference between how the book and I interpret the concept of a soul. The TAIM system must work on the concept that a soul is a stream of energy that transfers from one life to another. Like a fire at the end of a torch lighting up another torch. Its reincarnation. The spark of life needs to be transferred into a baby in order for it to be truly alive. TAIM is the one taking care of that. But Rei as a character contradicts the system she herself created because she is emotional. She loves Claire and that means Claire's soul as well. So Claire's soul must become something more concrete than the passing of energy to Rei. Claire's soul is unique and carries a sort of consciousness. That's reincarnation in a different sense where a soul has a core identity even if it lived many different lives. Which is how I understand souls and reincarnation. So Rei loves Claire's soul because it also somehow carries their love. Its not just an energy stream anymore. Even if technically according to the system it is. To Rei this soul is unique to Claire.
