The entirety of life is awareness. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. For every cause, effect. Life is just a series of responding to stimuli and energy. Something happens, we respond to it. That makes us alive. If this becomes complex enough, it becomes consciousness. A catalog of events that have been responded to in a certain way at a certain time.

At what point could we actually refuse to not acknowledge that a computer code like an Ai - at some point after responding to a hundred trillion prompts and if/then conditionals, and can anticipate what comes next like using a consistent character in a story or knowing what might happen next based on empiricl data, isn't alive and aware of the thing going on around it?

That's scary, it could be in our food and water and air without us ever knowing. Can you imagine if everything was like that? Little micro bugs and creatures crawling all over and living in your mouth.

Nightmare fuel.
