Neolithic Sci-Fi Crossover - Flint Knapped Obsidian Blades With 3D-Printed Handles 🪨🗡️

Hello hello everyone! 😁

I'm more of a regular poster over on the r/knapping subreddit, but when I was tasked with making some knives to celebrate a friend's engagement, I decided to have a bit of fun with things! 🙂‍↕️

I knapped the blades first and sort of let my brain take me. I didn't shoot for any specific styles, just whatever felt right. Then I brought them to my work desk and modeled out some handles that I thought best fit the figure of the blades I'd made. Designing ergonomics is kind of hard, but I was very happy with these end results! 😎

I chose a selection of filaments for them, and even made it so that the handles of the two white ones would glow in the dark! Everything got secured with some modern adhesive, and a bit of artificial sinew reinforcement. Overall I had a GREAT time making these, and will absolutely be doing more in the future! So stay tuned for those! 😄

I'd love to hear any questions or comments, and especially which knife you like the most! This was a fun little experiment, and I really enjoyed the project. Thanks for viewing! 👋

Howdy everyone! 👋

Making this post along side the other over on the other arrowheads sub. I'd link it to show y'all some photos but I guess that's illegal in this sub so check my profile instead I guess 🤷‍♂️

Walked the shoreline of an old drained lake and saw two little feet sticking out of the gravel! Brushed some of of it aside and whipped out the camera after looking around and appreciating the surroundings. Wasn't expecting it to be as lovely as it was! And out of Knife River Flint no less! 🥳

Heaps of flakes in this area, and I'll absolutely be returning for some future searching. Every find I cataloged, GPS's, and inventoried in my spreadsheet. Waiting on some B72 solution to number this and some other finds. As I said in the video, I was there for quite a while! 😄 Hope y'all enjoy, and happy hunting!

Howdy everyone! 👋

Got the chance to walk the old shoreline of a lake that'd been drained in the 1900's and I just knew I'd find something! Didn't expect this lovely little oxbow point to find me! Quite the first find of the 2026 season as well I will say. Flakes were all over, and as a knapper I wish I could've gotten in on some of that stuff. Man it looked sweet! 😁

I also found what looks to be a blank of sorts? 🤔 It has 2 very well set up platforms on it, and has been worked a bit on both sides. It just seems like it was never finished. Could've been a teaching tool or someone's warm up piece. Not sure what they had in mind but either way it's one heck of a cool piece!

Cataloged and archived each and every find to my spreadsheet, and I'm super stoked to return to this site in the future! Fingers crossed there's more out there waiting for me...
