Why are authors not allowed to write for validation? If I was only doing this for myself I wouldn’t post at all

I’ve seen a lot of people talk about how authors should only write for themselves and not care about comments and that’s why people say they don’t comment. But like… if we were doing this entirely for ourselves why would we post our stories at all?

I write partially for myself and partially because th comments I get from readers keep me going. If I don’t get any comments I would have stopped after like 3 chapters but because I’ve bee lucky enough to receive quite a few comments per chapter my fic is already 90k words.

We write fanfiction for fun, why can’t receiving comments and interacting with people who like our fics be what makes it fun?

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen go untagged?

To be fair it could be a LOT worse than this example but the biggest untagged whiplash I got was from a Peter Parker fic. I almost exclusively read and write spideypool so I’m not unaccustomed to woobified Peter but this one had ‘badass Peter Parker’ tagged and yet in the fic daredevil is acting as Peter Parker’s father and give him chocolate milk to calm down when he’s sad 🫩 and to be clear I’m very “to each their own” and “don’t like don’t read” but we can’t do that if it’s untagged because we don’t know it’s in there. 😩 (it also prevent people who WANT that stuff from finding it)

(Also I just realized this is the exact opposite of my previous post 😂)

What are some tropes that often go untagged that you wished you could more easily find?

I read and write Spideypool, and there are a good chunk of fics that kind of use the characters names and powers but take creative liberties with everything else. This is fine, of course, comics do it too and some of my favorite fics even fall into that category. However, sometimes I really want a fic that stays closer to their canon personalities. By that, I mean that they should both be at least attempting to make bad jokes 90% of the time😂.

Unfortunately, people don't really tag this because "canon personalities" isn't really a tag. 😭But I guess the positive side of this is that it inspired me to write my own fic with everything I couldn't find though tags (or couldn't get enough of, lol) in other fics. 💕 Also, as a side note, if you haven't read Spideypool, there are SO many amazing professional-quality fics in the fandom, IDK what they’re feeding some of the Spideypool writers out there but its incredible. And even the readers are actually really really sweet and comment a lot too! It's a really surprisingly wholesome fandom and a breath of fresh air in comparison to some other fandoms I've been a part of. (Arcane and now heated rivalry cough cough 🫩)
