Looking for a real “prom-style” / ballroom formal event in NYC

I’m trying to plan something special for a girl I’ve been talking to for a while. I’m a junior and she’s a senior, and I originally wanted to do a promposal, but it turns out neither of us can go to each other’s prom (hers is restricted to her school, and mine is seniors only). So now I’m trying to pivot and still create that same kind of moment, but with an actual event we can go to.

Basically, I’m trying to find a legit formal event I can take her to that actually feels like prom. Not a party, not a club, not one of those “black tie optional” things where people show up in jeans. I’m talking real atmosphere — like a ballroom, people dressed up, music, maybe dancing — something that feels like a real night.

I’m in the NYC area but willing to travel up to about an hour north (Beacon area) or around NJ / Westchester. Ideally something on the west side or accessible by train.

What I’m looking for:

  • Ballroom or elegant venue (chandeliers, big space, etc.)
  • People genuinely dressed up (suits, gowns — not casual crowd)
  • Has a dance floor or at least some kind of social/dance element
  • Open to the public (tickets I can actually buy)
  • Late May to early June 2026
  • Not insanely expensive (trying to keep it reasonable, not $500+ gala)

Bonus if it has:

  • French / Paris vibe (not required, just fits what I’m planning)
  • Live music or orchestra instead of just a DJ

What I DON’T want:

  • “Booze cruises” or party yachts
  • Random Eventbrite “black tie” events that end up being casual
  • Super corporate charity galas with an older crowd
  • Anything where I’d feel out of place dressing formal

Basically I’m trying to recreate the prom night feeling with a real event she can look back on forever, since actual prom isn’t an option.
