How do you approach this problem? Not getting much ideas.

What does this mean?? Does this refer to the minimum marks required to get into the rank list? It obviously cannot be the marks required for a seat

I really don't want to get my hopes up at all at this point. I don't want to keep focussing on cutoffs. Will give my best even if i am dissapointed during the paper

What do you define P(x) as?? Is this even the correct approach? Do i just take the outer (x - alpha) term in because that does not make sense to me
