Post tongue tie release feeding difficulties

I’d really appreciate any advice or reassurance from anyone who has been through something similar.

My 12-week-old had a tongue tie release 2 weeks ago. Since then, we’ve definitely seen some improvements overall, especially with shorter and more efficient feeds.

However, over the last 2 days feeding has suddenly become more difficult again. He seems much more gassy and uncomfortable during feeds, even though I’m trying to keep everything as calm and consistent as possible.

He will usually only feed in a side-lying position. We are using Dr Brown’s bottles as advised. For the first few minutes of some feeds I use an ultra preemie teat, then switch to a preemie teat. This had been working reasonably well for the past couple of weeks, with gradual improvement.

But recently he struggles to get into any rhythm at all. He starts feeding but quickly becomes unsettled. I can hear a lot of stomach noises, he pulls off, squirms, and seems uncomfortable even though he still appears hungry. I’m finding it difficult to get even 3oz into a feed at times, so I’ve been offering feeds more frequently to make sure his overall intake is maintained.

I’ve tried the next flow teat up but that seems too fast for him and makes things worse.

One thing I wondered is whether this could be a developmental phase, as he has also just started rolling recently and seems more alert in general.

His wound looks good and healing as expected, and I’m continuing with the recommended stretches.

I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed as things had been improving and have suddenly become more difficult again. Has anyone experienced something similar after a tongue tie release or during this stage of development?

Any advice or reassurance would be really appreciated.
